The University of Kentucky has been selected to serve as a regional convenor for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) national EnergyTech University Prize competition.

Sponsored by DOE’s Office of Technology Transitions (OTT), the EnergyTech University Prize (EnergyTech UP) is a collegiate competition challenging multidisciplinary student teams to develop and present a business plan that leverages laboratory-developed and other high-potential energy technologies.

In the 2024 competition, student teams will compete for more than $400,000 in cash prizes for successfully identifying a promising energy technology, assessing its market potential, and creating a business plan for commercialization.

Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to compete. Throughout the competition, students will receive mentorship and materials to help them succeed.

Interested teams must submit a 200-word summary of their chosen energy technology and the business opportunity, along with an initial slide deck by Thursday, Feb. 1.

Competitor teams first present at their designated regional events in February, where regional finalists are identified.

UK will be serving as a regional convener and will host its competition online on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
