The continued partnership between Beam Suntory and UK will ensure the Institute continues to offer expertise for teaching and research.

The James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits officially opened its doors today, elevating the institute’s impact on research, workforce development, education and outreach.

The Central Appalachian Regional Education and Research Center (CARERC) at UK is one of 18 university-based occupational safety and health training programs sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The partnership with bourbon barrel manufacturers aims to assist in the sustainable use of white oak and improve the efficiency of barrel production.

The distillation industry is an important part of Kentucky’s economy, and the Beam Institute is training students to enter distillation, wine and brewing careers. “We are grateful for this contribution from Vendome,” said Brad Berron, director of research for the Beam Institute.

Koetter Construction’s proprietary K-RAX storage system is the company’s response to distilleries’ concerns about structural integrity and safety, modern bourbon barrel storage building codes, safety regulations and understanding of construction materials.

“This is a great opportunity to carry our efforts beyond Kentucky and the United States,” said Seth DeBolt, director of the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits. “To partner with such an established institute will elevate the efforts we’ve already begun at the Beam Institute.”
